So you either have a bench full of tools that’s uncomfortable to use, or you’re forced to choose what stays out and what gets packed away. If you fill the whole bench with your tools, there’s not going to be anywhere left to work. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen somebody replace the controller on one of these entry-level hot air stations, but because there are so many different versions floating around, you should do some careful research before cracking yours open and performing a brain transplant.Ĭontinue reading “An Arduino Controller For Hot Air Handles” → Posted in Arduino Hacks, Tool Hacks Tagged 858D, arduino pro mini, hot air rework station, solderingĪnyone who’s ever tried setting up a workbench in a tight space knows the struggle: you want to have all your test equipment and tools out and within arm’s reach, but you just don’t have enough surface area. An Arduino Pro Mini is more than up to the task, and a custom PCB makes for a fairly neat installation. All the real magic happens in the handle itself, the controller just needs to keep an eye on the various sensors and provide the fan and heating element with appropriate control signals. The seven wires in the handle connector have already been mapped out by previous efforts, though does go over the need to verify everything matches the provided circuit diagrams as some vendors might have fiddled with the pinout. Rather, says the Arduino version is designed to be more efficient and reliable than the stock hardware. After all, a spare 858D handle costs about half as much as the whole station, so there’s not a lot of room for improvement cost-wise. Now to be fair, it doesn’t sound like price was the only factor here. You can pick up one of the common 858D stations for as little as $40 USD, but that didn’t keep from creating an Arduino controller that can be used with its spare handles. But there will always be bargain-hunting hackers who are looking to get things even cheaper. In general, the cost of electronic components and the tools used to fiddle with them have been dropping steadily over the last decade or so. ![]()

![]() ![]() But I think there's always the wish, I guess, for everyone who wants to get back to a warm and secure place and having - and doing something that you like. I know that there are many other people who have a different feeling when they wake up, and they are forced through that. That is, in a way, something that I think is very spiritual for me personally because then I know I have 12 or 15 hours to do something that I really love and maybe - at least for me, that is. In a way, the feeling that you have, maybe, in the morning when you open your eyes and you know that you have another day that you can fill up with things that you love. I think this music wanted - I wanted to be in a - maybe in a sort of Bach area - what I feel when I listen to Bach music because it has this very deep sense of existence. (SOUNDBITE OF VOLKER BERTELMANN'S "SCARF")īERTELLMAN: I mean, that's, for me, the religious theme, you know, the lost humanity that is, I think, a very religious aspect of the film because - the fact that through being a soldier, you're losing, very quickly, all humanity and everything that you've believed in and that you had beforehand, and you are wishing to come back to that place at some point and get that back. Here's how you reimagine them later in the film. And you do that in some really beautiful ways with "All Quiet On The Western Front." Here's a piece called "Scarf" that completely reimagines those opening notes - those three notes that are really pretty brutal when we first hear them. It's fairly common for film composers to take a theme and rework it throughout the score. ![]() HILTON: I want to get back to those three main notes that you used at the top of the film. And at the same time, you have these elements of horror. So you can actually see how everybody is getting ready until you hear these sounds of yearning in a way, and you have something that is ticking very slowly and building. They are really - I mean, they want to move onwards, and you can see that the soldiers are stalling. And underneath, you have just the pulse of the negotiations in a way because time is passing by. You know, these kind of shouting sounds that are a little bit even, like, yearning or something like that. And we recorded a lot of these war horns that were, you know, doing these (imitating horn). I had a guy coming here, and he's having a huge collection of very old war horns, and - in all sorts of sizes. And the piece that you wrote for this incredible moment is - it's just called "72 Hours."īERTELLMAN: It's actually a lot of war horns. And, you know, what they're essentially saying in that moment is that the human slaughter will continue until you have given us everything. And then France says the fighting will continue until Germany has signed. And the French demand a full surrender, and they tell the Germans, you know, you have 72 hours to accept these conditions. HILTON: There's this incredible moment in the film where Germany asks France for an armistice. (SOUNDBITE OF VOLKER BERTELMANN'S "72 HOURS") And I want to have a snare drum that is played by somebody who can't play the snare drum (laughter).īERTELLMAN: So that were the three sentences that he said.īERTELLMAN: And there was nothing else (laughter). I want to have that - the feeling from his stomach that he feels always when he's in the trenches. And then he said, I want to have something for the main protagonist. They started by talking about the instructions that the movie's director, Edward Berger, gave to Bertelmann.īERTELLMAN: Edward said to me, please do something that is destroying the pictures that is not, you know, underlining what we already see. SUMMERS: NPR's Robin Hilton sat down with Bertelmann to talk about creating the score, which is nominated for an Oscar this year. You could hear the breathing and the wood working as a machine, and that whole thing is played through a distortion. Like, the crackling is actually the wooden paddles. Bertelmann did give his great-grandmother's harmonium a job - creating the opening theme for the film.īERTELLMAN: All the sounds in there are harmonium. ![]() SUMMERS: A harmonium - a 19th century organ that uses reeds instead of pipes. And then my studio - there was the harmonium of my grand-grandmother (ph) that I refurbished a year before, and it was just, like, sitting there waiting for a job. VOLKER BERTELMANN: When I saw the film the first time, I was thinking I need an instrument from that time. (SOUNDBITE OF VOLKER BERTELMANN'S "REMAINS") SUMMERS: And for the past decade, he's been scoring films - most recently for "All Quiet On The Western Front," last year's drama about World War I. In the 2000s, he began to experiment with prepared pianos, adorning the strings with tape and foil, marbles and erasers. SUMMERS: In the early '90s, he was the keyboardist in a German hip-hop group. The composer Volker Bertelmann has led many musical lives. ![]() ![]() It is very well organised or I must say it is easy to browse. Checked reviews online, also here at coolblue, All fine, satisfied, all in all good reviews. Then I bought a speaker from UE online, the Boom 3. I have been using this for years with pleasure, super satisfied with it (especially if you compare it, in terms of price and accessories, with now. ![]() To start with, I have (since 2013) the JBL Charge (1). It sounds and works great, but it just doesn't sound as good as the Ultimate Ears model listed above, and we don't quite like the aesthetics as much as the JBL Boombox 2.First sorry for everyone who thinks this speaker is great, but this is my opinion.
![]() ![]() This is because that nearly every chaos deck in the format could be described as some sort of control, and yet we don’t call every single chaos deck “Chaos Control.” Admittedly, a better name for this deck would probably be something like “Good Stuff Chaos,” because of its lower synergy and lower variance than most other chaos decks. ![]() The name “Chaos Control” can itself be misunderstood. Just use your first Shining Angel to bait some sort of removal (like Nobleman of Crossout or Sakuretsu Armor), and then play the next one. ![]() Remember that your opponent won’t know what your hand is, so they will often be operational under the assumption that your Shining Angel has really juicy targets and not attack it, even if it would in reality be better for them to do so. Warrior Lady is very bad, but this is also not the case. Whichever one that you choose to use will depend a lot on your playstyle.Īnother common assumption is that opening multiple copies of Shining Angel and/or D.D. Thunder Dragon Chaos, on the other hand, has more explosive plays with Card Destruction. This is not the case, and the advantage of choosing Chaos Control over Thunder Dragon Chaos is superior early game options. Some players are quick to disregard chaos decks that play Shining Angel or Skilled White Magician over the more popular Thunder Dragon, insisting that Thunder Dragon is required in any chaos deck. Using Scapegoat at the right time will take a considerable amount of planning. If you activate Scapegoat, always consider what happens if your opponent decides to leave all four goats. This is because of the fact that it plays no tribute monsters. Chaos Control also notably has a harder time dealing with Scapegoat than most decks, but luckily 3 Scapegoat is pretty uncommon.Ĭhaos Control is more prone to goat-locking itself (filling up all of your monster zones because of Scapegoat) than Goat Control is, so be careful. In this case, you will need to pressure those facedown monsters with your Shining Angel or Skilled White Magician. If the opponent’s plan to beat you involves a lot of attacking each turn, they’re going to have a hard time getting through.Ĭhaos Control can have a difficult time dealing with hyper-defensive play, consisting of set monster after set monster for many turns in a row, because Chaos Sorcerer and Metamorphosis are more optimized to deal with faceup threats. ![]() Both Skilled White Magician and Shining Angel can hold off a lot of aggression, and Chaos Sorcerer can clean up the rest of their threats. You are heavily favored to win any kind of war of attrition between these two decks just make sure that you don’t get surprised by a big OTK or a Morphing Jar.Ĭhaos Control is also quite prepared to play a matchup against aggressive decks like Anti-Meta Warriors, Reasoning Gate Combo, or Chaos Recruiter. Cards such as "Injection Fairy Lily" and "Creature Swap" help for dealing a lot of damage.Chaos Control is well equipped to do battle with Goat Control, especially with Goat Control players who do not have too much familiarity with the matchup. Side Deck: "Skill Drain", "Spell Canceller" and "Royal Decree" are useful against monster, spell and trap heavy decks respectively. Traps: These traps are all very high impact on the opponent's field, and result in huge gains in card advantage and easy damage for OTKs. "Snatch Steal" and "Brain Control" can utilise the most powerful monsters the opponent may summon and use them against them. "Heavy Storm" and "Giant Trunade" act as backrow removal, and allow easy damage with the Chaos monsters. Spells: Many spells are here for consistency, such as "Reinforcement of the Army", and to grab cards that can work in any situation. With the power of traps, "Jinzo" both neutralises trap decks and acts as a 2400 beater. Cards such as "Old Vindictive Magician" and "Exiled Force" provide ways to out opponent's challenging monsters. Monsters: Most of the monsters in the deck float, and by being light or dark can allow quick access to "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning" or "Chaos Sorcerer". ![]() ![]() The sick joke of the bill is that these cities would have to complete a vaguely defined housing needs assessment every five years and a “long term” plan to address concerns like GHG emissions, air pollution and limited water supply (but no actual efficiency requirements for anything.) This ensures that there will be a huge land rush, as developers try to beat the planning process’s first due date at the end of 2026. So, business development can proceed without contributing to affordable housing, making things even worse. However, Polis apparently didn’t deem such a requirement as worth the paper. Boulder’s is now up to $30 per square foot for office space, a fraction of the real cost of $129 per square foot calculated years ago, probably around $150 now. There is no requirement that new business development pay jobs-housing linkage fees to fund affordable housing for their workers that otherwise could not afford to live there. Therefore, a similar dynamic that these politicians are complaining about will persist after the bill goes into place as before, but with a lot more growth. But the bill contains no requirement that communities limit jobs to match their housing, just that they build more. One of the arguments for the bill is that some communities are erecting barriers to housing development, forcing sprawl on their neighbors. And, no surprise, Boulder’s “progressive” Mayor Aaron Brockett spoke at the legislation’s news conference. There’s lots more to it, including many pages of biased propaganda that totally ignore cumulative impacts, and descriptions of the dictatorial but ill-defined role assigned to the Department of Local Affairs. And in the areas around transit corridors, density is even higher and parking requirements are prohibited. Why waste part of your lot on parking when you can use it for development? So, streets would be jammed with cars. Rather, the amount of parking per unit would be left to developers - in other words, zero. So, if you’re a business looking to hire someone with multiple kids, or you’re a middle-class family looking for a modest house, you better go to another state!Ĭities would not be allowed to require off-street parking for any of these denser housing developments. Apparently, such requirements are unacceptable, since they restrict profits from development.Īll this together guarantees that prices of existing houses will go through the roof since the few that haven’t been scraped will be at a premium. The bill contains only the most minimal affordability requirements, way weaker than even Boulder’s requirement that 25% of new housing projects be permanently affordable. The obvious result of this is that every time a house or lot comes up for sale, deep-pocketed developers will pay huge sums, build the maximum number of units that can possibly fit, and then sell it to a rental company to charge whatever the market will bear. So, having areas of varying density is gone. Here’s some of what the bill proposes, as best as I could discern: Steve PomeranceFor the CameraĪll “Tier 1” cities, including Denver, Colorado Springs, Aurora, Fort Collins, Lakewood, Greeley, Boulder, Grand Junction, Pueblo and Arvada, would have to allow the construction of duplexes, triplexes and multiplexes up to six units, as well as accessory dwelling units and modular homes, on all lots in all residential neighborhoods, including HOAs, with only five-foot side/rear setbacks. So, I actually reviewed the bill’s 105 pages. That many Democrats in the Legislature are supporting it just showed me that power corrupts, and absolute power makes you completely looney. ![]() At least that’s what the initial reports on Gov.
